Hello February!

Valentines Day is fast approaching and this month I’m focussing on relationships <3

Maternal mental health problems can put a huge strain on partners and the relationship we have with them. I know from my own experience that this additional pressure can also impact on recovery.

But here at Happy Mums we’re not just thinking about this subject in the traditional sense – there’s a whole range of relationships that are hugely important: between parent and child, with grandparents, between siblings, with our wider support networks and friends. But also the relationship we have with ourselves.

So on Valentines Day I’m going to think about being kinder to myself. This is something I learned about while studying mindfulness and is especially hard to do when you are going through periods of low mood, depression or anxiety – but I think its also crucial during these times as a way to help you regain a sense of well-being. (Enough preaching for this month).

As a team we’re going to be sharing our thoughts throughout February, and we’d love to know what your experiences are too. Comment on social media, email us, phone or pop in (we’d love to see you).

On subject of relationships, the 2nd and 3rd of March sees The Happy Mums Foundation exhibiting at the World Health Innovation Summit at the Harraby Community Campus in Carlisle. I’m also going to be speaking about my personal story of postnatal depression and how it led to setting up Happy Mums. #NervousButExcited :-)

This event brings together a range of organisations and individuals with a role in health innovation (arguably EVERYONE has a role to play), and seeks to build relationships for the benefit of our community. And you are invited – book your ticket now

And watch this space for our latest initiative being launch this month – “Budding Parents” – which is a fantastic way to build relationships with other parents-to-be ahead of baby’s arrival!

Have a great month

Love Katherine x
